Kindergarten
The Kindergarten Program at Hornsby Heights Public School aims to provide a happy, secure transition to school. During the Orientation/ Transition to School program, new students will meet their buddies from Year 6. This is a Peer Support activity and strong bonds develop between the Year 6 and new Kindergarten buddies. The students then spend time with their buddies during their first few weeks at school in activities which help them become confident and settled into the school environment. As the Kindergarten students establish friendships, learn routines, feel confident and more secure and become part of the school community, they become enthusiastic and involved in their learning.
We have a sound phonic based language and literacy program which commences Week 2 of the Kindergarten year. Students participate in the Home Reading program and parents are invited to become active helpers in listening to students read daily. Our Count Me In Too mathematics program gives students hands on experiences and opportunities to discover and enjoy early mathematical strategies.
Kindergarten students participate in weekly P.D, Health and P.E activities designed to develop not only physical but also mental astuteness. Games lessons, skill development, Gross Motor and experiences with an extensive range of sporting equipment, ensure support for students of all ability levels.
Parents and helpers are most welcome in the classroom. They are able to assist in a number of roles including management of home readers, helping with reading group activities, number and gross motor activity groups.

Please collect an enrolment form from the main office prior to the end of Term 3, to ensure you recieve all appropriate communication.
