English

The Key Learning Area of English encompasses Reading, Writing (including Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Talking and Listening. Literacy is a key feature of our school and many programs have been put into place to support the development of literacy skills. In addition to extensive classroom and support programs, opportunities are provided for students to participate in a variety of extension activities.

Kindergarten to Year 6 classroom activities include Reading Groups with parent helpers, Home Reading programs, weekly Spelling and Grammar activities, Topic Talks and Library lessons. Units of work based on a theme approach incorporate lessons across the other KLAs.
Support programs include Teachers aide Support for individual and small groups and District Support for students with special needs. Community helpers also provide valuable support by working with individual students. Buddy reading programs run with senior primary students working on a one to one basis with students in Kindergarten to Year 3.

Extension activities include Public Speaking, Debating, Enrichment Classes at a District level, the UNSW English, Writing and Spelling Competitions, the Nestle Writing Competition and the Bryce Courtney Writing Competition.
